Is the Powerhouse Ultimo closing? ›

The Powerhouse Museum Ultimo will close its doors on 5 February 2024 for building and conservation works that are expected to take up to 3 years.

The Powerhouse Museum is open every day of the year, except for Christmas Day, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are just $15 for adults, and children 16 years of age or under get in free.

A new Museum of Arts and Applied Sciences will open on the river foreshore in Parramatta in 2025 as the new centre of arts, culture and innovation. It includes the newly relocated museum and a revamped Riverside Theatres.

Sydney's Powerhouse Museum will temporarily shut its doors to the public on Sunday evening after more than 35 years of operation in Ultimo. The museum is due to undergo three years of renovations before reopening to the public in 2027. It's a decision that has sparked both delight and outrage in the community.

The NSW Government's $250 million investment in a heritage renewal of Powerhouse Ultimo will reorient the museum's main entrance and create a new public square and entry via The Goods Line to enable better connection with surrounding precincts and public transport.
