The maximum range recommended by Vortex for internal HCD calculations is 800 yards, though it does work out to 5,000 yards (Vortex recommends using a ballistics program for 800+ yards, in LOS mode for the most accurate solution beyond 800).

Generally, Leupold scopes tend to have better glass clarity than Vortex, especially in their lower-end scopes. Some shooters may not notice — or care about — the small difference. As a side note, only Leupold offers the fixed power scopes that you don't have to (i.e. can't) adjust.

Most of the commonly used ballistic devices can provide independent slope correction for bullet drop data and require actual line of sight range input. Using the LOS range when calculating bullet wind drifts under these steep slope/long range conditions will provide a higher degree of accuracy than using the HCD range.

Rangefinders typically have slower shutter max shutter speeds, like; 1/500 or 1/1000 of a second. This means you can't open up your aperture as wide/as fast as you'd want in daylight and may not be able to control your depth of field as easily.

What is better 10×42 or 12×50? The 10×42 is an extremely popular configuration – second in line to 8×42. It is more universal, thus suitable for beginners, as well as more experienced users, whereas the 12×50 is a configuration not as suitable for beginners.
